Self-proclaimed screenwriter Nick Mendoza called Marvel Studios Thursday to say he’s ready to write the script for The Avengers: Infinity War – Part One, because he has listened to all 227 episodes of the Scriptnotes Podcast hosted by John August and Craig Mazin.

“After 10 episodes of listening John and Craig talk about writing movies, I was like, ‘Writing a movie doesn’t sound that hard,'” Said Mendoza, who was skimming the Wikipedia article for Marvel. “After I listened to all 227 I said to myself, ‘I can write any movie in the world… I should write an awesome one that’s gonna make me a ton of money,’ so I chose to write The Avengers: Infinity War – Part One.”

Scriptnotes, a podcast about screenwriting and things that are interesting to screenwriters, is what screenwriters listen to gain writing experience while driving to work or at the gym, instead of learning by sitting at a computer and struggling to get better by actually writing and soliciting feedback from peers.

When asked why he was uniquely qualified to write the third Avengers film, the previous two combined grossing over a billion dollars domestic, Mendoza had a simple answer, “I liked the first Avengers a lot, and I listened to all of the episodes of Scriptnotes. I can’t imagine there are many screenwriters out there who have all the qualifications that I have.”

When reached for comment, President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige said, “Listening to all the episodes of Scriptnotes shows real dedication to your career. For most writers, I look at several screenplays they’ve written, talk to their agents and managers, and have them pitch to me. But, if this guy really listened to all the episodes, I’d forego all of it and let him write the script for what will certainly be the crowning jewel in Marvel Studios film series. Hell, we wont even ask for a second draft.”

Mendoza has scorned Final Draft after listening to episode 129, and intends to write the next Avengers film in Highland, where he plans to learn formatting of a screenplay as he goes.

Mendoza was going to leave us with one cool thing, but he forgot this week.
